Am I the only one?!

Today in a class that is a basic level math class. There are 25-30 students ranging in age from 18-lower 30's. A pop quiz is put up on the board at the end of class. Covering 4 questions from that day's topics which meant an easy A if those were paying attention and a bonus just in case you missed one. We had 12 minutes to take this pop quiz for that was the remaining time in the course, so no rush was apparent. Grades in the class are prob an average C due to those he calls out after he has finished grading the tests of a C or better. This bonus question had little to do with the topics of the day, however was a critical thinking question without the seriously critical part. The question goes as follows "A basket is full after 30 minutes. After each minute the basket doubles its eggs. For example 1st minute one egg, 2nd minute 2 eggs, 3rd minute 4 eggs and so on. The question was that if full at 30 minutes, when was the basket half full?" Once everyone finished we turned it in and had 3 minutes left to go over the questions. He went over the first four and was surprised to the bummed reactions of my fellow peers. I got 3 correct and was anxious for the bonus' answer. He asked allowed the question and everyone was silent. Someone said 15, he responded incorrect. Thus I spoke my answer of 29. He said correct! I then looked around and asked didn't anyone else put 29? Hoping I wasn't the only one. Then I realized that in today's time that that simple mere question may show that common smarts or critical thinking may have diminished. Yes this was a pop quiz and the bonus was a trick question. However no one decided to give it that few extra seconds of thought. Do we jump to conclusions and just guess if we don't know in the first 10 seconds after reading something? Do we decide to be wrong to get by? Just a thought, if you said 29 before reading my answers then maybe I am not the only one...
